About Me
Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Isaac Fink is a recording artist with experience in studio engineering, live sound engineering, producing, and mixing as well as archiving, media digitization and preservation. Isaac is also an accomplished ethnomusicologist with interests ranging from contemporary and non-contemporary Christian music to psychedelic punk and everything in between.
While living and studying in Bloomington, Indiana, Isaac was able to work and collaborate with many talented individuals ranging from composers to film-makers and producers and live sound technicians. In association with the Jacob’s School of Music, Isaac was able to gain experience in recording a number of different genres including jazz, orchestral, opera, choral, chamber music, contemporary electronic music, and a variety of solo instrumentalists. Isaac has also worked with contemporary bands, engineering, producing and mixing pop, jazz, folk, blue-grass, rock, grunge and sludge-core music. Isaac has experience recording in traditional recording studios as well as non-traditional space such including basements, stairwells, forgotten rehearsal rooms, remote cabins and many more.
Isaac has also had the privilege of working on a number of film projects such as Double Exposure and the Trans-media Production Project with Robby Benson and students from the media school as well as students from the music composition department. Diving into the world of film, Isaac has had hands on experience in ADR, foley, post-production editing, along with film score recording, editing and producing and is credited for mixing and editing on an independent film, Just Call Me Jack.
In the Summer of 2015 Isaac began an internship at The Numero Group, an independent record label that specializes in releasing obscure and previously unreleased music from the days of yore. Among many duties, Isaac was tasked to digitize all newly acquired master tapes, allowing for a deep education in the science of magnetic tape as well as necessary and proper tape machine maintenance. In addition to tape operation, Isaac interviewed artists wrote liner notes for Wayfaring Strangers: Cosmic American Music.
Isaac has recently graduated from Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music with a Bachelor of Science in Recording Arts and a minor in Ethnomusicology and Folklore. In school Isaac worked closely with Konrad Strauss, Mark Hood, Dr. Ruth Stone and Fernando Orjuela. Isaac also worked professionally for Wayne Jackson, president of Jackson Audio and co-founder of the Recording Arts Department at The Jacob’s School of Music, as a live sound technician.
